Half Moon Recognized by Preferred Hotels & Resorts with 2024 GIFTTS Pineapple Award
Montego Bay, Jamaica – Preferred Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest independent hotel brand, has announced its 2024 GIFTTS Pineapple Awards with Half Moon honored for Overall Hotel for its various philanthropic and environmental efforts. Nominated along with nearly 100 member properties across four categories, Half Moon’s Chairman Guy Steuart III received the award from Preferred’s CEO Lindsey Ueberroth and President Michelle Woodley at the annual Preferred Global Conference in Lisbon on May 9, 2024.
The GIFTTS Pineapple Awards, which celebrate the Preferred’s Great Initiatives for Today’s (Tomorrow’s) Society (GIFTTS) program celebrate exceptional actions by member hotels globally in the areas of philanthropy, environment, and community, as part of the brand’s GIFTTS program. In addition to providing hospitality that extends beyond their doors, nominated hotels are also required to rank among the top in their region as part of the Preferred’s Integrated Quality Assurance program – which includes third party on-site inspections and real-time guest feedback from the world’s top consumer review sites.
“It is incredibly rewarding to be recognized by Preferred Hotels & Resorts for our community efforts that also transcend guest expectations,” said Shernette Crichton, general manager at Half Moon. “From recreation and sustainability to food and beverage, there is meticulous thought put into our entire operation and we are thrilled that our work has proven to be successful.”
Since 1972, Half Moon, which is managed by Salamander Collection, has supported various philanthropic endeavors, demonstrating a deep-rooted commitment to giving back to the community – from charity golf tournaments and funding scholarships to mentorship programs and supporting SOS Children’s Village. The resort has also proven its commitment to environmental sustainability by introducing recycling programs, water conservation efforts, energy efficiency measures, an on-site fruit and vegetable garden utilized by its food and beverage team, and a turtle conservation program that aims to protect populations and their natural habitats.
Just a 10-minute drive from Sangster International Airport, the Forbes Four-Star-rated Half Moon features a triumvirate of resort options across its 400 acres: Founders Cove, Eclipse and Half Moon Villas. Founders Cove features its own crescent-shaped beach, swimming pools, swim-up bar and is adjacent to Half Moon’s tennis and fitness amenities, and the Anancy Children’s Village. Eclipse at Half Moon includes 57 accommodations, a stunning infinity-edge pool, natural swimming cove, seven bars and restaurants, including the highly acclaimed Delmare.
All guests at Half Moon can also enjoy a variety of additional activities, including equestrian, watersports, tennis, pickleball and squash; and a wide range of dining options such as the legendary Cedar Bar and Half Moon’s award-winning signature restaurant Sugar Mill, known for its creative twist on Jamaican cuisine. For relaxation and restoration, guests can also enjoy a Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed golf course, and Fern Tree, A Salamander Spa, which features two dramatic overwater bungalows for massage treatments and yoga classes.
