Half Moon inducted into Historic Hotels Worldwide

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA – March 27, 2024 – Half Moon in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is pleased to announce it has been inducted into Historic Hotels Worldwide, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (United States of America) for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels around the globe.

Historic Hotels Worldwide promotes heritage and cultural travel by featuring a prestigious collection of historic treasures including historic hotels and other historic lodgings spanning more than 10 centuries in 47 countries around the world.

“Historic Hotels Worldwide is honored to induct Half Moon, a historic resort hotel celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.” said Lawrence Horwitz, Executive Vice President of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. “We commend the Half Moon, its owners and Salamander Collection for their careful historic preservation work, stewardship and vision that will allow future generations of travelers to experience this unique historic destination.”

Historic Hotels Worldwide membership is exclusive to select hotels, resorts, and inns with lodgings at historic sites that are at least 75 years old and offer historic accommodations. Though it is a diverse collection, each member is required to possess one or more of the following qualities: it served as the former home, or it is located on the grounds of the former home, of famous persons, or it is a significant location for an event in history; it is located in or within walking distance to a historic district, historically significant landmark, place of a historic event, or historic city center; it has been recognized by a local preservation organization or national trust; and it displays historic memorabilia, artwork, photography, or other examples of its historic significance.

“We are honored to be recognized with this distinction, particularly when it has already been such a monumental year for us as we celebrate the resort’s long history,” said Shernette Crichton, general manager of Half Moon. “We look forward to continuing our legacy in Jamaica and worldwide by evolving with today’s travelers while preserving the resort that our guests have loved for generations.”

Just a 10-minute drive from Sangster International Airport, Half Moon features a triumvirate of resort options across its 400 acres: Founders Cove, Eclipse and Rose Hall Villas. All guests at Half Moon can also enjoy a variety of additional activities, including equestrian, watersports, tennis, pickleball and squash; and a wide range of dining options such as the legendary Cedar Bar and Half Moon’s award-winning signature restaurant Sugar Mill, known for its creative twist on Jamaican cuisine. For relaxation and restoration, guests can also enjoy a Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed golf course, and Fern Tree, A Salamander Spa, which features two dramatic overwater bungalows for massage treatments and yoga classes.
